Choose Your Own Career in Linguistics

You double major in linguistics and physics..

Your linguistically-honed analytical skills improve your “rad physics skillz”. Your linguistics friends are impressed that you are majoring in physics. Your physics friends are impressed that you are majoring in linguistics. So are your physics professors.

You get offered the opportunity to work on two prestigious research projects, mostly with professors and graduate students. One is related to SETI, the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, where they think your linguistic skills may come in handy for designing protocols for first contact. The other is an attempt to open mini temporal wormholes, and hopefully be able to listen to the past, and they are excited at the prospect of you helping them devise algorithms to automatically determine the time and place of the languages they encounter.

Work on the SETI project to contact alien life forms.

Work on the temporal wormhole project to listen in on the past.

Pass on these projects, and focus on your undergrad studies.
